Project: André Malraux School Complex
Author: Dominique Coulon & Associés.
Architectural photography of the André Malraux educational center in Montpellier, France. The school complex is part of the development dynamics of Montpellier, with the aim of connecting the city with the sea.
The nursery and an activity center for before and after school occupy the ground floor. The elementary school occupies the other two floors, with a playground on top of the nursery. The volumes are designed as autonomous elements that seem to slide over each other, with overhangs that cover the playground. Each volume has a different color or material. The passage areas receive natural light from the patios and openings.
The classrooms are open at the ends and, therefore, are oriented both north and south. With this, ideal lighting conditions are maintained, as well as natural ventilation thanks to the passage of air through the classrooms.
